| Senator John McCain of Arizona gave a speech to a group of leaders of the AFL-CIO construction trades union in April 2006. He must have taken a course in “How to Alienate and Thoroughly Insult People” before his appearance. He told the crowd of working people that illegal aliens do the work that Americans won’t do. That comment didn’t sit well
with the union leaders and they voiced their disagreement. He then offered the group of construction workers “50 dollars an hour to pick lettuce”. A few people in the crowd offered to take him up on the offer. The Senator told them that they couldn’t last a whole season doing the job. “You can’t do it my friends”, he told the crowd. His comments caused such an uproar in the room that the Senator threatened to walk out and actually started to leave the podium before the crowd quieted down and
McCain stayed to finish his appearance. McCain, the former navy pilot and POW obviously has never labored in the construction industry. If he had a clue he would perhaps understand that construction work such as roofing, concrete finishing, installing flooring or inground piping is backbreaking hot difficult work. And the aforementioned are a small sampling of the numerous difficult, dirty, hot (or freezing cold) backbreaking jobs that Americans do every day. Most of the workers doing these
jobs don’t get paid nearly 50 dollars an hour. The Senator has been fighting for an amnesty for all illegal aliens in the U.S. As he obviously holds the interests and desires of illegal aliens in much higher regard than those of American citizens, perhaps the Senator should seriously consider relocating to Mexico and entering politics there. Campaign appearances of this type could get the Senator elected President - of Mexico. Hightstown New Jersey Mayor Robert Patten compares enforcement of federal immigration law with Nazi war crimes. Patten was quoted in The Record (June 26, 2005) in the context of local police reporting illegal aliens to the Federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “It’s not our responsibility as local police to implement these Nazi-style actions in the United States and just go around taking people off the street who may be undocumented. Immigration is a federal civil matter. Its not our role.” Patten continues, “Politically, it may not be the best thing to do, to talk like this. But I don’t fear that. My position is to ensure that everyone can reach the American Dream.” Patten may not want Hightstown Police to report illegal aliens to federal authorities yet he ordered Hightstown Police to take a group of American citizens “off the streets” in April 2005. When the immigration reduction group United Patriots of America attempted to hold a meeting in a diner in Hightstown, Mayor Patten ordered the local police to remove the United Patriots. Is Mayor Paten a hypocrite, a fascist, a socialist/communist, a traitor or all of the above? Mayor Patten’s position is to ensure that everyone can reach the American Dream. But what exactly does that mean? Who is included in everyone? Does he mean the billions of people throughout the world that would gladly relocate to Highstown to receive their share of the American Dream? Or does he only include those who have sneaked into America and made their way to Hightstown? People of Hightstown: does your mayor speak for you? Tancredo is immigration reform’s brightest political star. President George W. Bush’s top political strategist Carl Rove
told Representative Tancredo to “never darken the door” to the White House again. Mr. Rove’s ire was stirred by Rep. Tancredo’s immigration reduction efforts in Congress.
