Doubling the Population

Catastrophic Population Growth:

Doubling the Population of The United States in 60 Years

If current immigration and fertility trends continue for the next 60 years, the U.S. population will increase to over 560 million. By 2100 the number will be one billion. Each year 3 million people are added to the U.S. population. America’s present population is 320 million.

The above projections were prepared by the U. S. Census Bureau and are based on current immigration numbers and fertility rates. The increase results primarily from immigration and the future descendents of immigrants.

In the 1990’s, the U.S. population grew by 3.2 million persons each year. 70 % of the increase was from immigration.

An essential part of a discussion of U.S. immigration must involve numbers. Questions that must be asked and answered include: How many people should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. each year? What is the optimum population of the United States? Without any further immigration, America’s population would stabilize at 250 million by the year 2050.

What will America look like when her population has reached 560 million? Some of the changes will probably include:

  • less open space will be available in suburban areas as present day suburbs become developed in greater density
  • Cities will grow in population, density and congestion
  • Rural areas will become more populated and developed
  • Millions of acres of farmland will be developed and lost to future generations
  • Air and water pollution will probably intensify
  • Water supplies already stretched to the limit in many areas of the nation will be depleted
  • Shortages of energy including electricity, natural gas and oil may occur
  • America’s present shortages of affordable housing will be exacerbated
  • The nation’s ability to provide health and human services to its citizens may not meet the demands of an additional 120 million persons.
  • Overcrowding at recreational areas such as National and State Parks and wilderness areas will  increase
  • The demands placed on government provided social services may be unmet resulting in social chaos

Current levels of U.S. immigration are vastly larger than historical levels, as shown on this page of the FAIR Website.

Recently the generation of Americans that fought the Second World War and built the America of the 1950’s and 60’s have been given the accolade “The Greatest Generation”. The present generation of Americans must ask themselves with which sobriquet will they be remembered by future generations of this nation. Will the inheritors of an America  overpopulated, polluted and depleted by prior generations pile praise on their forebears ?n essential part of a discussiA population increase
